5:55 man, you got a trifecta of Buffalo Bill jokes there! "Goodbye, Horses" indeed! 10:20 speaking of which, are you considering reviewing *The Visitor?* Now _that_ has some funky music! 16:55 would his name be Sauroman? even as a kid in the 70's, this was a little on the slow side.. but I still like it. I'd rather have build up and payoff than just _splat, there it is!_

As a dinosaur aficionado who's also really into classic pulp. I feel this little nugget is on topic: Porter Emerson Browne's "The Diplodocus" (published in 1908) is a humorous western tall tale where the narrator & his long-sufferings mule meet an eccentric coot who makes "eggsperiments" similar to plant grafting, but using animal material. His ultimate goal is to recreates a dinosaur using the genetic material of other animals, specifically in order to display to the public for big bucks. It doesn't go to plan, & hilarity ensues. What's fascinating is that not only is it one if the earliest entries in the Cowboys & Dinosaurs genre, it also kind of anticipates Jurassic Park in the wackiest possible way. I love that story.

I think I remember seeing some clips of this movie on a "Sci-Fi Channel" special about the legendary Ray Harryhausen. I sadly forgot the title always assumed the movie was called "Cowboys & Dinosaurs". Seeing it here, it does make me curious to check it out if it ever airs on TV or I run into it on DVD. Great episode man!

I remember seeing this as a kid, and being utterly unimpressed by the effects and the story. Turok, it was not... Btw that too is a prime example of cowboys and dinosaurs! Honestly, the human characters are all boring, and I thought their goals were pretty dumb, they have a friggin' live dinosaur and all they can think of is to put it in a circus.

saw that in Saskatoon around 1982 or 83. We were in the big city for shopping, and my mom had my older brother and i go to see a movie while she did her shopping. I was maybe 9 years old....and this movie blew my fucking mind. i still love it. And by the way, Shaw Brothers did some amazing kungfu flicks that you oughta review. For example, FIVE DEADLY VENOMS, and the part 2 called CRIPPLED AVENGERS. The cinematography is worth it, alone....but the kungfu is mental.too...

I had this title mixed up with another dinosaur movie I saw on tv as a kid. Anyone know the one where a frozen T-rex, brontosaurus, and a caveman get thawed out in either Old West or modern (50s or 60s) times? Btw, Brandon, nice prototype Vault suit.

Filmed at Cypress Gardens , SC. This 170 acre "cypress garden" was built in 1750. this film 1982. Excellent filming location. And yea the original US film 1982 release , was cut for Europe , which had more nudity than a US PG film . so we saw alot of Adrienne Barbeau's tiddies as she waded around in Cypress Gardens. before that film release got noticed/censored by the MPAA.

I could love this movie more but for things you mention and 1) why does the police inspector have any power on the train? He's a local cop. 2) the monster sees sleeping kids. The kids are never seen again and there's no stops 3) the monster is whistling in the caboose at the back of the train and they hear him in the private car behind the locomotive? Over the wheels on the track? 4) most important - this being from another planet is absorbing the knowledge of rocketmaking and metals from Victorian era humans? He should know 100 times what they do. Smart thing would to take over the Polish guy with all the money so he'd have the funds to build the rocket Or just take over the planet. Start his version of Apple in whatever year that was. No wonder they left him behind.

No, the Star Knight isn't a hobbit, a goblin, a ghost, or ghoul. Nor is he a phantom, a banshee, a witch, or an ogre. His crew *does* have the best chance of taking over, though.

"Before "Cadillacs and Dinosaurs" there were "Cowboys and Dinosaurs"." this is more TUROK: SON OF STONE than TALES OF THE XENOZOIC ERA now most know TUROK from the N64 game franchise, but it was a comic from the 50's i wonder if the uncredited writer was influenced by Ray Harryhausen's idea.

I loved it as a kid. I’m a Huge Dino/creature fan. And growing up in the UK Godzilla movies weren’t really on tv for us.Coming off the back of the Lost World, I was hyped for this movie and came away happy and happy wanting more. I don’t think I had enough Godzilla knowledge to compare to anything, but I love the design and the atmosphere of the movie. I still have big love the this movie and the soundtrack.

Your only praise fir this film is for the Dino scenes, BUT what about the good quality cinematography rich colours (that add to the spectacle of the dinosaurs) & equally great thundering sound track score, a clever mix of traditional Western theme and fantasy, also for a Dino/Western combination its the best story, compared to others, ive noticed your reviews don't vary any one film to another always cynical & sarcastic

  • @nigeldonaldson1647

Ive NEVER noticed the Dinosaurs coming into the story late, I thought the pacing was spot on for a short film. The stuff about Alec Baldwin is in bad taste as a woman died, don't you think? 60s film making in general, was a different time & place, but you judge it by today's standards. with little or no character development

The score is stellar. Animation is at its best. The color shifts have been attributed to producer Charles Schneer ordering the wrong film stock.
